Si86xx Digital Isolator Evaluation Board

The Si86xxISO Evaluation Board allows designers to evaluate Silicon Laboratories’ family of ultra-low-power Digital Isolators. These isolators are CMOS devices employing RF coupling technology to transmit digital information across an isolation barrier, achieving very high speed operation at low power levels. The products are based on Silicon Laboratories’ proprietary RF isolation technology and offer shorter propagation delays, lower power consumption, improved noise immunity, smaller installed size, and more stable operation with temperature and time when compared to opto-coupled isolators. The Si86xx family include up to six unidirectional isolated channels, permitting data transmission rates of up to 150 Mbps; the Si860x isolator series consists of single-package galvanic isolation solutions for I2C, SMBus and PMBus serial port applications.

The Silicon Labs broad range of Digital Isolation products offers significant improvements over older isolation technologies such as opto-couplers. They demonstrate lower power consumption, greater reliability and higher performance, and are generally smaller in size and lower in cost. These CMOS-based devices exhibit stable operating characteristics over a wide temperature range and do not suffer from the lifespan limitations of opto-coupled devices.
